ABOUT P.E.

St. James Physical Education program is designed to help all students understand how to be healthy and active for a lifetime.  P.E. is more than just teaching students the skills and rules of games or sports.  My goal is for all students to possess a physically active and healthy lifestyle throughout their lives.  Physical education should help all students develop a positive attitude toward exercise and to understand the benefits of exercise.

ABOUT MRS. STEPHENS

I am a Liberty native, attending Liberty schools and graduating from Liberty High School.  I graduated from William Jewell College with a B.S. in Physical Education K-12.  This is my 13th year teaching at St. James.  Prior to St. James I taught Gymnastics for over 10 years at various schools and recreation programs.

PARTICIPATION

It is important that all students participate to their fullest potential in P.E.  If your child cannot participate for one week due to illness or injury, a note from the parent will suffice.  If the child cannot participate for longer than one week, a note from a physician is needed.  Notes or questions can be E-mailed to me at DonnaStephens00@hotmail.com.

UNIFORM

Please refer to the handbook for the uniform policy.  Please follow the policy.    Tennis shoes are required for P.E.  platform tennis shoes or tennis shoes without backs are not acceptable.  These are very unsafe for P.E.

BEHAVIOR

Cooperation is very important for the safety of all the students.  If a student is disruptive in a way that interferes with others learning or poses a danger to him/her or any other student, they will be removed from the activity.  If the behavior continues, a parent will be called for a possible conference.

GRADING

Students are graded on participation, demonstration of skills taught and responsibility.  Middle school students may have occasional written tests.  Middle school students are also given points daily for being prepared (coming to class on time, being dressed out etc…)

I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO A GREAT YEAR!
